It was in the latter part of Beethoven’s life, when his deafness was profound, that he composed his monumental Missa Solemnis. The choral writing, with extremes of dynamics and speed, is amongst the most virtuosic in the entire choral repertoire.

Handel: 'Messiah'

The music for Messiah was completed in 24 days of swift composition. The first part prophesied the birth of Jesus Christ; the second exalted his sacrifice for humankind; and the final section heralded his Resurrection.
